2011 KCB Awards

Congratulations to the following recipients of the 2011 KCB awards, presented at the KCB conference banquet on Saturday, November 19.

The Anna Rose Cain Award recognizes outstanding advocacy on behalf of the blind. The Central Kentucky Radio Eye is the recipient of this award. CKRE has provided exceptional radio reading services to people who are blind and visually impaired in Lexington and surrounding counties for over 20 years. The service has now expanded into Louisville and southern Indiana, thus increasing the quantity and quality of news and information available to residents of these areas.

The James Carl Dotson Award is presented for community service, and this year's winner is the Cincinnati Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired. The Cincinnati Association celebrated its 100th year of service on October 15, 2011. CABVI provides employment, training, and many other services to people who are blind and visually impaired in both Cincinnati and northern Kentucky.

The William A. Routh Award is presented for outstanding service to KCB. This year's winner is Bill Deatherage, KCB's current president. Bill is originally from the Covington area; he was instrumental in the founding of the Northern Kentucky Council of the Blind, and he served as its first president. Bill served also as the first president of the Guide Dog Users of Kentucky, and again filled that office for the past several years. Bill also participates in KCB's newest chapter, the Tri-state Library Users, and he is completing his second term as a Director on the Greater Louisville Council of the Blind Board.

Thanks to the 2011 Awards Committee (Jim Shaw, Chair, Louisville; Frank Campbell, Clayhole; Deanna Scoggins, Louisville; Shirley Stivers, Bellevue; and Paula Wiese, Lexington) for their hard work and service to KCB.
