KCB - A See of Possibilities

Kentucky Council of the Blind

37th Annual Conference

November 19 - 21, 2010

Technology - Exhibits - Programs

Food - Friends - Prizes

It's time for the annual conference of the Kentucky Council of the Blind, and we invite you to join us as we set sail on the KCB See of Possibilities.

Packed with speakers (mariners), exhibitors (on the boardwalk), good food (from the Captain's table), friends and fun and surprises, this conference is a one-of-a-kind experience.

TECHNOLOGY EXPLORATIONS WORKSHOP

Our yacht sets sail on Friday at 2:00 p.m. with this very special opportunity; perfect for individuals as well as vision teachers, rehabilitation counselors, and other professionals. The workshop features:

Ray Campbell, Adaptive Technology Help Desk Technician at the Chicago Lighthouse for the Blind, as well as representatives from En-vision America, the American Printing House for the Blind, and Lab Computers will be on hand to demonstrate products, share tips and techniques, and field your questions. Space is limited and first come, first serve; register early to assure a seat at the table. Try to arrive a few minutes early to sign in and pick up workshop materials.

THE WEEKEND

The Boardwalk (exhibits) opens from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. on Friday, and again from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. An incredible array of technology and adaptive products, services and resources, gift ideas - even homemade goodies - pack the 2010 KCB exhibit area. We might even have a new accessible cell phone just waiting for you to try!

Join us at the Captain's Table at 6:00 p.m. on Friday for the traditional KCB chili supper. Choose delicious chili or potato soup, or have a bowl of each. Following life member and volunteer recognitions, take a walk through history as Micheal Hudson, curator of the Callahan Museum at the American Printing House for the Blind, brings to life the role of the Kentucky School for the Blind during the Civil War. Seek your fortune in the ship's lounge by playing Bingo from 8:15 to 10:00 p.m.; $5.00 buys you a board and all games. Prizes for every Bingo and a special treasure for the lucky person who wins the most games.

Continue to explore the See of Possibilities on Saturday morning. A continental breakfast and the Boardwalk (exhibits) get under way at 8:30. A special breakfast for guide dog users, also at 8:30, is your chance to share experiences and concerns. Beginning at 10:45, and extending throughout the entire afternoon, you'll be treated to presentations and discussions featuring outstanding mariners (speakers). Find out what's new at the Printing House and how the tight state budget is affecting students at KSB. Ask questions about Kentucky Talking Book Library service and policies, and get the latest updates from the Office for the Blind. Learn about new cell phones and technology solutions. The business meeting and election is at 11:30, with the working Submarine Lunch sponsored by Subway at 12:15. The See to Shining Sea Banquet is at 5:30, replete with an outstanding program featuring Ray Campbell, ACB Board member and President of the Illinois Council of the Blind, and presentation of KCB's 2010 scholarships and outstanding service awards. The scrumptous meal includes fried chicken, pork chops, veggies and mashed potatoes, salads, and homemade desserts; you can even have seconds! Wrap up the day with an informal social after the banquet; plenty of friends to go round. Our voyage closes on Sunday with a lip-smacking See You Later Breakfast at 8:00 a.m. Feast on eggs, bacon, fruit, biscuits and gravy, and much more.

THE DETAILS

Once again this year the KCB conference will be held on the campus of the Kentucky School for the Blind, 1867 Frankfort Avenue in Louisville.

The marina (registration) and the beachhouse (dorm) open at 2:00 on Friday. Meetings, exhibits, meals and registration are on the yacht (Recreation Center). The Technology Explorations Workshop is in the Richard McDowell History House. The beachhouse closes at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday.

An adventure pass (registration badge) is required whether you plan to attend one event or the entire conference. Your registration fee covers all meals EXCEPT the banquet, as well as exhibits and programs.
